Did you know?

One of the earliest known professional armies (and most feared in world history!) was the Spartan Army (from Sparta - one of the known states of ancient Greece during the 6th to 4th centuries BC). In those days it is known that boys were sent to the barracks at age seven (!!) for soldier training (similar to present day military boot-camp). They were then released at the age of 30 and allowed to get married, although their military services lasted until age 60 and even more.

Nowadays the closest seven-year old boys get to that is having a fun-filled army party! :-)
