Coolest Kid Birthday Parties

Coolest Beach Scavenger Hunt

The beach scavenger hunt is a wonderful activity when you're holding a party at the beach!

Check out these free beach-ball scavenger hunt invitations you can print out and send to each guest:

When starting the beach scavenger hunt, divide everyone into teams and give each team a list full of things the kids need to find at the beach. For younger kids you'll need an adult with each team.

On the list you can write things that the kids need to actually collect, and other things that can't be collected and can be photographed with a digital camera or even on video. Here's an example of a list of things the kids need to collect during the beach scavenger hunt:

  • Three different kinds of shells
  • A feather
  • A piece of sea sponge
  • Find something red
  • Three different colored rocks
  • Something made out of metal
  • Some tar on the bottom of a teammates shoe
  • A piece of seaweed
  • Some moss
  • Something made out of wood
  • Coral
  • A bag full of as much trash you can pick up
  • A plastic bottle filled half-way with sand
  • A piece of newspaper not from the same day
  • A popsicle stick

If you want to make things a bit harder for older kids, you can add things to the list that have a specific color, touch, smell, sound, or any other characteristic; for example "a green plastic bottle", "something that has a soft texture", etc.

To spice things up, you can add things to the list the kids will need to either photograph or video-tape. Here are a few examples of photographs and/or video scenes the kids need to come back with:

  • Bird tracks
  • A crab
  • A boat (to make it harder you can write a specific kind of boat)
  • A wet dog
  • A sand castle at least 2 feet high
  • A beach or ocean animal
  • A teammate who is buried in the sand from the torso (or to make it harder, from the neck)
  • Any sport being played at the beach
  • A surfer
  • Someone in a red bathing suit
  • A person's footprint in the sand
  • Someone fishing
  • Everyone in the water up to the knees

The following examples are only for video-taping:

  • The whole team singing a Beach Boy song while mimicking surfing movements
  • Entire team needs to go in the water, then roll entirely in the sand (each team-member completely covered in sand)
  • Everyone talking like a surfer to the camera

Halloween scavenger hunts

Here's a blank beach printable to make your own beach scavenger hunt list, and a worded one as well:

The blank list can be changed and altered for more of a challenge by adding scavenger hunt clues and riddles.

Check out these two whole pages full of scavenger hunt clues and scavenger hunt riddles.

Another nice beach scavenger hunt idea is to put tasks on the list that are creative, like making a shell and/or rock rubbing (when you put a piece of paper on a surface and with a crayon rub on it to capture the texture of the surface).

When the hunt is over, a great keepsake is to make a scrapbook full of pictures that were taken on the scavenger hunt or a small video showing a few fun scenes that were filmed during the beach scavenger hunt.

You can also send out a picture to each guest with thank-you cards. Here are some great beach scavenger hunt thank-you cards you can print and send out:
