Coolest Ideas for Superhero Kid Birthday Parties
Superhero kid birthday parties are a sure bet for super-human fun.
You can have a Superheroes party and invite all the Superheroes to save the day. Or, if your kid has a favorite Superhero, you can build an entire party around that hero, such as:
A Batman party (with black and yellow colors), Spiderman party (with red and blue colors), Superman (with red, blue and yellow), etc.
The ideas below mainly focus on Spiderman and Batman, although many can be easily tweaked to fit any Superhero theme.
Villains are also an important part of these kid birthday parties, so, remember to invite Batman's nemeses: Catwoman, Joker, Penguin, Two Face, Mr. Freeze and the Riddler; Superman nemesis Lex Luthor; Spiderman nemesis Green Goblin, etc.
There is such an overwhelming offering of superhero party supplies that for this theme I've created a special section below to try and help you find your favorite superhero with lightning fast speed.

Superhero Party Supplies
Click on any of the below themes to bring up a page full of that superhero's coolest party supplies:
Invitations
Insignia Invitation: Use cardstock to cut out the invitation in the form of the chosen Superhero's special emblem. For instance, change the diamond-shaped red and yellow "S" (Superman) into the first letter of your child's name.
Or, for a Spiderman invitation, cut out an octagon, draw a small circle in its center, extend lines coming out of the circle to the corners of the octagon, draw arches in between each 2 lines, and you've got a spider web.
For a Batman invitation, trace a Batman mask with pointy ears onto black cardstock, then cut out the eyes and mouth and write on the back with a silver marker.
Use Superhero stickers to decorate the invitations.
Newspaper Invitation: Cut out newspaper clippings, scatter and glue them onto a piece of cardstock. These clippings will serve as the background for your own homemade newspaper headline and "article". Fold the cardstock in two. On the front side, write an ominous headline that warns of evil villains that are planning to take over the world. Inside, write an article that asks all invitees to come to the party dressed as their favorite Superhero and help the birthday kid save the day and capture all the escaped villains.
You can write something like: "The Riddler (or Lex Luther, Green Goblin, etc.) has escaped, and Batman/Superman/Spiderman and (child's name) need YOUR help!! Come celebrate keeping the planet safe!!" Add the date, time, address (Gotham City, etc.), RSVP, and whatever other info that's needed.
Comic Strip Invitation: Another great idea for Superhero kid birthday parties is to find your Superhero's comic strip (online or from a comic book), make a copy or scan, white out the speech bubbles (or use a graphics program), and fill in the party details in a fun action-filled strip.

Decorations
You can come up with lots of fun and creative ideas for decorations for Superhero kid birthday parties. For instance, cut out comic book pages, print images from the Internet and hang all sorts of Superhero posters.
Hang all kinds of action signs such as "POW", "BAM", "KABLAM", and lightning bolts around the party area. You can also make signs saying "No villains allowed", "No passage for Green Goblins", etc.
Gather your kid's Superhero figures, toys, etc. and scatter them around the party area. Use them also as table centerpieces.
You can also set a super scene for your Superhero kid birthday parties with this great spider web entrance that can be used as an awesome backdrop for photos (to send out later as thank you cards). Or, you can go for this less expensive Spiderman door poster.
Additional decorations for Spiderman kid birthday parties can include blue and red balloons and streamers, all sorts of spider decorations you have boxed up from last Halloween. And if you don't, here's an awesome selection of creepy crawlers.
Another cool scene setter idea for Spiderman kid birthday parties is to disperse these great cobwebs all around the party area, doorframes, chair backs and put nets on tables over the table cloth.
Decorations for Batman kid birthday parties should be in black and yellow. Make cutouts of Bats and attach to balloons, streamers, walls and the ceiling or use this pre-made bat decorations.
Another fun idea for Batman kid birthday parties is to make big question marks and place them on the walkway coming into the party area (symbolizing the Riddler).

Costumes
Costumes build up excitement and are a great mood setter during kid birthday parties. Especially Superhero kid birthday parties. So, get your child to dress up...
Here's the BIGGEST selection of Superhero costumes and accessories I've ever seen!
Ask the guests to bring what costumes they've got, and you can also make capes to hand out. Make them from the appropriate fabric color, iron the edges with seam tape and then pull elastic and ribbons through to tie (elastic keeps it from being a potential choker).
You can also provide stick-on felt stars and letters for the kids to decorate their capes during the beginning of your Superhero kid birthday parties. Also, supply kids with masks, gloves, glasses or other fitting accessories.

Icebreaker Activites
*Superhero Dig: Here's an awesome icebreaker (brickbreaker) activity for Superhero kid birthday parties. The kids get to dig through a brick made of sand and wax to expose a plastic figurine (works best with a slightly older group). You'll need a few empty milk cartons, wax, sand, Superhero figurines, and a willingness to invest a bit of time beforehand (definitely worth it!). Heat the wax in a tin bucket that's immersed in a pan with water, and stir in sand slowly - enough to coat the wax thoroughly. When the sand looks saturated, pour some into a clean empty milk carton and then insert a hard plastic figurine and cover it with more sand/wax mixture. When it's ready, give the kids their "brick" and a metal spoon to excavate their surprise (they might need some help excavating their toys but it is a very enjoyable activity, especially for Superhero kid birthday parties.)
*Tattoos and Face Painting: Paint the guests with special Superhero symbols, such as bats, spiders, question marks, lightning bolts, etc. Here are some great face painting kits for your Superhero kid birthday parties.
*Superhero Insignia Shirts: The kids'll have loads of fun making their own Superhero insignia shirts. Buy a few packages of plain white T-shirts. Beforehand, get a few pieces of cardboard and cut out templates of Superhero emblems such as a lightening bolt in a circle for Flash, a bat signal for Batman, a big W for Wonderwoman, a diamond with an S for Superman, etc. The kids pick the logo they want and paint it onto the front of their shirts.

*Tootsie Pop Spiders
The kids will enjoy making cool little spiders with this Tootsie Pop Spider kit... and then have an even better time eating them! |
*Superhero Placemats: Get a Superhero comic book or print out Superhero coloring pages from the internet and let the kids color them. Give each kid two coloring pages and provide them with crayons, markers, stickers, glitter, etc. Then give each kid a thin piece of cardboard the size of a coloring page (for stiffening the placemats) and let them glue on the two pages, one on each side (don't forget to write each kid's name on it). Then, cover the cardboard with Con-Tact paper (remember to cut the Con-Tact paper a little larger than the cardboard)
*Web-Slingers: For this activity you'll need blue and red finger-less mittens and different colored yarn that needs to be cut beforehand to at least 12"-18". Knot 4-5 strands together (just at one end). Have the kids attach each knotted bunch of string to the underside of each half finger (by making a hole and then tying, or with Velcro pieces, or you can help them with hot glue). Let the kids decorate their cool web slingers with Spiderman stickers, buttons and fake gems to be used as super power buttons for speed, invisibility, etc

Food and Drink
Birthday Party Idea for Cake:
There are lots of cool ideas for Superhero cakes for kid birthday parties.
Emblem Cake: Bake a rectangular or round cake and frost it like the chosen Superhero's emblem. For instance, for a Superman cake, cut a diamond shape, frost it blue, write your kid's initial with yellow, border the cake with yellow, and then border the initial and yellow border with red frosting. Or, for a Spiderman cake, you can frost a round cake with vanilla frosting. Then, with black gel frosting, draw a swirl starting from the middle of the cake, swirling around itself until you reach the outer edges of the cake. Once this is done, with a toothpick, "pull" out from the center going out and do this about 10 more times all around the cake to create the web effect. You can then garnish the web with all kinds of plastic crawly spiders. This same web concept works equally well with individual cupcakes or round sugar cookies.
You can also bake a rectangular cake and ice it white. Then with red, blue and yellow frosting write things like "POW", "KABLAM", and "BAM" in zig-zagged expression bubbles. Border each of these words with black frosting. Then you can put all kinds of Superhero figurines on the cake.
For Superhero cupcakes, frost them with white frosting, sprinkle red, yellow and blue sprinkles, and then put a small Superhero figurine on each.
Food Ideas for Superhero Kid Birthday Parties:
During food time, a great idea for Superhero kid birthday parties is to set up an extra place without anyone really noticing it. Then, have an adult dressed up as a Superhero bash in through the door and sit to eat with the kids (the look on their faces when he comes in should be remembered!!). The Superhero can deliver a special birthday present to the birthday kid and token gifts to the rest of the kids. You can have the kids interview him and take a picture of each kid with the Superhero to later add to the thank you cards.
Here are some food ideas for Superhero kid birthday parties
*Superhero Sandwich: Cut two long loaves of sourdough bread length-wise and fill with layers of meat, cheese, tomato, and lettuce.
*Emblem Sandwiches and Burgers: Use specialty cookie cutters, such as a diamond, bat, lightning bold, etc.
*Super Power Sticks: Write a sign on a dish that says "For Super X-Ray Vision" and put inside sliced Carrots. "For Super Strength" use celery. And so on. Suddenly the veggies aren't what they used to be.
*Green Riddler lettuce salad
*Penguin's tuna salad
*Peter Parker's Pizza: Add a warning saying that genetic modification will follow!
*Radioactive Spiders: Oval-shaped sandwiches with vegetable stick legs and olive eyes.
*Green Goblin guacamole (serve with red tortilla chips)
Drink Ideas for Superhero Kid Birthday Parties:
*Power Drink: Serve the well-known power drink - Gatorade. And super charge it with pop rocks that'll crackle, pop and split right before the kids' amazed eyes.
*Transforming Drink: Superheroes are always transforming back and forth. Here's a drink that'll transform right before the kids' eyes. Prepare colored ice cubes beforehand with colored fruit juice, concentrate, or by adding a few drops of food coloring to each compartment before placing the tray in the freezer. Then, when you put the colored ice cubes in a clear drink like Sprite, it suddenly transforms into that color.
Treat Ideas for Superhero Kid Birthday Parties:
*Power Bars
*Kryptonite: Pop rocks
*Vitamins: Skittles
*"Mr. Freeze" ice cream
*Catwoman Claws: Buggles work very well because then the kids can put their fingers in them like claws.
*Penguin Party Chip and Dip: Use a black plastic top hat and turn it upside down. Then put the chips in it and place a pair of white gloves and a bubblegum cigar by the dip.
*Bat pellets: Chocolate-covered raisins.
*Jell-O jigglers: Use the same cookie cutters as mentioned in the foods section.
