The video camera scavenger hunt is so much fun! It's also great to keep the taped-material as a keepsake for the party.

Divide everyone into teams (younger kids will need an adult with each team). For more fun - each adult can take a car and drive the team around town to find things on the list. In the case of a car, it's best to have no more than 4 kids on a team, that way 4 kids and an adult can fit in one car (unless you have a big van that can hold more people).

Give each team a video camera. It's important to charge each video camera the night before so that the battery is in full charge. You might want to also give each team an extra charged battery if you're planning the hunt to take more than two hours (depends on the camera's battery life). If each team is riding in a vehicle, you can also give out chargers that connect the video camera to the vehicle and so they can charge the camera while driving. Also give each team an extra DV tape just in case they'll be needing more than one (unless you want to restrict the video-filming to one DV cassette).

You'll be giving the kids a list of items they will need to video-tape, as well as scenarios the kids need to create, some can be really funny and others challenging.

Here are a examples to put on your video camer scavenger hunt list:

Try making funny, absurd, and creative situations the kids need to video-tape. For example the kids need to sing Christmas carols in front of a house (in April !), or funny scenarios the kids need to act out in public.

You can require that each scene should be taken in a certain order. You can also write a quote, saying and/or conceptual sentence and then the team-members need to video-tape their association of the sentence, saying, or quote from a song, movie, or book.

Make sure everyone knows that each video-taped scenario needs to be CLEARLY filmed, if it is only partially filmed or not really understood - they might not get the points for that specific assignment.

Create your own list, one that might be closer to your kid's personality or the group that is arriving to the party. Print this blank video scavenger hunt printable to make your own list:

The above list can be changed and altered for more of a challenge by adding scavenger hunt clues and riddles. Check out these two whole pages full of scavenger hunt clues and scavenger hunt riddles.

After each team comes back from the scavenger hunt, it's best to meet up at home or a place each team can connect their video camera up to a TV (that way everyone can watch the funny scenarios together).

When the hunt is over, you can make a scrapbook full of pictures that were taken on the scavenger hunt (if photographs were taken). You can also send out a picture to each guest with thank-you cards. Here are video camera scavenger hunt thank-you cards you can print out:

Another cool idea is to edit a small video (possibly 10 minutes long) with all of the highlights of the video camera scavenger hunt (from all of the team's footage). Then burn a DVD of each movie and send out to each guest (definitely a cool keepsake for everyone!).

Don't forget to read and make sure the kids know the scavenger hunt rules before going on the scavenger hunt.
