Coolest 1st Birthday Sesame Street Party for Nikash

1st birthdays are always exciting but a tough one to plan. Getting the adults and kids to enjoy is one thing, getting your one year old to smile through the party is another.

I started planning for my boy’s 1st birthday 3 months before and boy oh boy, how rewarding it was, only my pictures will tell you.

I chose the Sesame street theme because he got a huge Elmo as a present when he was born and ever since, he is in love with him. I got the baby sesame street invites done and got it printed and sent it out almost 6 weeks before the party.

After researching on the internet for hours, I put together a few ideas as to what I would do for the decorations. Quite a few ideas were taken from coolest kids party website.

Homemade Elmo and Sesame Street Decorations

I printed the happy birthday sign with my son’s name and on a large red vanguard sheet; I pasted it with baby Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster scattered here and there.

I glued blue crepe paper so that it would give some edging to the banner. There, banner done!

Now, it was serious business. I decided to craft sesame street sign posts, name tags, place cards, food labels, snack labels, table center pieces of Elmo, cookie monster, big bird and grouch, small sesame street characters glued on sticks, Elmo napkin holders, sesame street happy birthday signs and sesame street gang footprints. I printed out all these, glued it on vanguard sheets and then cut them out.

The sign posts were the most difficult ones. I used vanguard sheets, green felt which I sewed it around the vanguard sheet and a Styrofoam white ball which I glued on top. To make it stand, used Styrofoams again.

All this craft work was fun to do. With the help of my four year old, this was the best part of the party preparations.

While, the craft work was underway, my online shopping was on too. Sesame street table cover, wall hangings, paper plates, napkins and cups were purchased from eBay… what a life saver eBay is!

And then there were link-o-loon balloons which I had discovered on the net. I decided to make balloon arches, which was quite a difficult call but managed to get the arches up with packets and packets of blu-tack.

I printed out signs like, Elmo welcomes you all, pasted it at the entrance Elmo is so happy to see you, near the buffet table and Elmo wants you to sign here on a canvas for the guests to sign. There were also wordings like… la la la nikash’s one – pasted near the main table.

On the menu, the highlight was Elmo’s fruit punch and sausage rolls but my cupcakes were not too bad either.

I decided to make cupcakes with Elmo, big bird and cookie monster toppers. I made the toppers with fondant icing…must say my big bird looked more like Ernie but glad no one noticed.

I had hired an Elmo jumping castle but out of all other days, it had to rain on the party day so quick change and hired Rufus the magical clown. He was awesome and even involved the adults. Yay for that.

And the birthday boy… well what can I say. Two weeks before the party, I started the decoration bit by bit. Every morning, he would wake up to see something new hanging around and would squeal with his ever famous laughter and enjoy it the entire day. On the party day, he was amazed with all the decorations. Got his hands on the footprints and managed to watch Rufus for a few minutes.

He was looking gorgeous with an Elmo romper set and later on a formal shirt and vest on.

The birthday cake was an Elmo one. I could have made it myself by hiring the cake tin but you know how it is. Rush rush in the last minute so ended up ordering it but was a good choice though.

Nikash Sesame Street Party Bags

For the party bags, I bought brown paper bags from the dollar shop; printed Elmo thank you’s from coolest kids parties site and pasted it on the bags. to add more color, I glued some pom poms, alphabets and sesame street gang pictures which I printed off the computer.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading. It was a lot of work and mums usually don’t get to enjoy the party because they are on the move but I thoroughly enjoyed myself putting this party together. And thanks again, coolest kids parties for getting me started.

Before I finish; it was pretty hard for me to chuck away all the craft work in the bin after all the hard work no way! I put up all my unused paper plates, cups plus the decorations and table covers on ebay thinking there would be some busy mums who would appreciate my efforts and guess what there was. It got sold.

Cheers,

Nivas

  1. What a great party tale :-)

You really put a lot of effort, I’m sure your adorable son will be so thankful when he’s older and looks at your pictures!!

  2. Conducting a grand birthday party such as this really requires a lot of time and effort. It’s tiring but for sure it’s worth the effort. Thanks for such a great idea.
