In Europe, Moonstone is considered the birthstone for June, although in the United States it shares that distinction with Alexandrite and Pearl.
The Romans thought that moonstone was formed out of moonlight.
Pearls are easily found in both sea and fresh-water varieties and attributed to the Goddess Venus as a symbol of innocence.
Alexandrite is one of the few color-changing stones. It will appear to be different colors in natural and fluorescent lighting. It is rare in it's natural form, but can be found in a synthetic form, with the same color-change properties. Alexandrite was named after Czar Alexander II.
